# FNOL

> First notice of loss intake, initial claims assessment, and structured claim triage

## Overview

FNOL (First Notice of Loss) is a workflow for first notice of loss intake, initial claims assessment, and structured claim triage.

It supports end-to-end early-stage claims handling — claimant capture, incident validation, coverage checks, preliminary loss estimation, compliance review, and an approval/recommendation outcome — in one streamlined workflow.

**What you get:** a structured table of extracted claim fields you can review, edit, and export.

<Tip>
  To set up the workflow (creating sessions, uploading documents, running a workflow, and exporting), see [Setting Up a Workflow](/workflows/setting-up-a-workflow) for a comprehensive guide. This page focuses on what's specific to **FNOL**.
</Tip>

## When to use FNOL

Use this workflow when you need a consistent first-pass review of new claims, including:

* Capturing claimant and policy details from forms, emails, and supporting documents
* Logging incident details (date, type, circumstances) for triage
* Performing an initial coverage/compliance check against policy requirements
* Estimating claim amount, deductible, and expected payout (where possible)
* Producing an initial decision or recommendation for next steps

## Step-by-step usage

## Inputs

* **Required:** access to [alk.wamiri.com](http://alk.wamiri.com)
* **Required:** stable internet connection
* **Required documents:** FNOL/intake materials and incident evidence (as available)
* **Optional:** policy schedule/endorsements, prior correspondence, estimates/quotations

## What's specific to FNOL

1. **Capture core facts early.** Focus on claimant identity, policy number, incident date, and loss type first — these drive routing and coverage checks.
2. **Initial assessment is not final adjudication.** Use this workflow to support triage and early decisioning; full claims adjudication may require further investigation and documentation.
3. **Be explicit about missing items.** If key documents or details are missing, reflect that in the summary and recommendation to avoid downstream delays.

These fields can be included or edited from the template:

* **Applicant Name**

* **Application Date**
* **Withdrawal Amount**

## Customising FNOL columns

You can tailor columns to match your claims checklist.

* Add columns for incident location, cause of loss, third-party involvement, police report reference, hospital/provider details, repairer/garage, photos received, and next action owner.
* Rename columns to be explicit (for example, "Incident date (DD/MM/YYYY)" or "Claim amount (₦)").
* Keep column names clear and unambiguous to improve extraction quality.

See [How To Add Custom Columns](/workflows/setting-up-a-workflow#how-to-add-custom-columns) for details.

## Important notes

* Always validate policy number and claimant details against internal systems.
* If a field is consistently wrong, simplify the column name or add a short instruction to the column prompt.
* Record missing documents and required follow-ups in the summary and recommendation.
